Easy and Cheap Chalkboard Frame

May 15, 2013

Chalkboards have become extra popular lately.  Everybody is coming up with creative ways to use their chalkboard paint or chalkboard paper.  Here is one of the easiest ways to use your chalkboard paper.  You can do this to create a menu board, a sign for a party, or for writing and placing a favorite quote on the mantel.
Before it was just a cheapie, ugly frame.
But now...
It's something new and unique!  I used this for my daughter's birthday party as a decoration on the table.

The instructions are simple:
1. Buy your frame. I bought mine for $2 at Deseret Industries, our local thrift store.
2. Paint your frame. With a simple craft paint job your frame becomes unique. Because what are the odds somebody will use the EXACT same paint color.
3. Sand the edges. This is optional, but a little sanding around the edges gives it a slightly worn look.
4. Cut your chalkboard paper to the size of the backing to your frame. If you don't own chalkboard paper, you can buy a big roll on Amazon for cheap.  That's what I did, and I use it for multiple, fun projects!
5. Remove the glass, place the paper in the frame, put the backing on, close the frame back up, and Wa-lah! A fun, unique chalkboard frame all your own!
